Dover fairground owners ‘shocked’ after death of teenage boy at Pencester Gardens

The owners of a fairground event in Dover have issued a statement after the tragic death of a young boy at the site. A teenager died after a serious incident in Pencester Gardens this morning (August 3).

Emergency services were called to the funfair site at 7.42am just hours before it was due to open to the public this afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Forrest Amusements, which runs the funfair, has now spoken out following the boy’s death. A spokesman said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic incident which occurred this morning (Wednesday 3rd August) at one of our funfair events in Pencester Gardens, Dover.

“Kent Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The Health and Safety Executive has attended the scene along with the emergency services.”

South East Coast Ambulance, Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service all attended the scene earlier today. Kent Police it was called to the scene after the teenage boy suffered injuries while on the funfair site.

Officers say the incident is not being treated as suspicious. While emergency services were in attendance, the one way street on Pencester Road was closed from the A256 Maison Dieu Road to Biggin Street.

This road has since been reopened. South East Coast Ambulance said: “We were called at 7.42am this morning to a serious incident at Pencester Gardens in Dover. We immediately dispatched a number of clinical resources to the scene, however, sadly, a teenage boy was pronounced as deceased at the scene.”

The Health and Safety Executive confirmed it also assisted with the emergency service response. An HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is assisting emergency services with their response.”
