Occupational Therapist (OT) Genie Charvet led a lesson on how to tie shoes after several students told her they wanted to learn. Genie was happy to teach them. Students watched a video model and practiced the strategy on real shoes.
“I felt so good when I got it. Really, really good. I don’t need help anymore,” student Corey Olsen beamed with a smile.
Shoe tying is a complex skill and some students might need continued practice to master it. Velcro, elastic, or slip-on shoes are other options for those who have great difficulty.
