Kent petrol prices drop 10p below the national average at Morrisons in Walderslade

The prospect of filling up the car with petrol has become a dreaded thought for many people in recent months. As a cost of living crisis has gripped the nation, fuel prices have risen for a number of reasons.

The first price rises came due to high global demand as the UK started to come out of the COVID crisis. However, the war in Ukraine has since pushed prices up even higher, mostly because of sanctions of the imports on Russian-sourced oil.

Russia is one of the world’s largest oil exporters and demand for oil from other producers has increased following the invasion. This has led to higher prices at the pumps.

The latest data from the RAC shows that the average price for unleaded petrol stood at 184.50p on Wednesday (July 27). Among all the forecourts across Kent, the cheapest unleaded petrol as of that same date can be found in Chatham.

Morrisons in Walderslade is selling unleaded fuel for 173.7p, which is considerably lower than other parts of the county. You can also fill up on diesel for 186.7p, which is also cheaper than the 193.90p national average.

In a statement issued to KentLive regarding their petrol prices, a Morrisons spokesperson said: “Petrol prices vary from town to town and even neighbourhood to neighbourhood, however we will always strive to be competitive in each local area we operate in.”

It comes after Manchester Evening News revealed the cheapest petrol station in the UK can actually be found in Manchester. The Limes Service Station, situated on Manchester Road in Walkden, significantly dropped its prices for petrol and diesel earlier this month.

Since July 14, the station has been offering unleaded at 169.9p and diesel at 185.9p with drivers flocking to the tanks in order to save money. Co-director Hassan Mohammed announced that prices at the Limes station have dropped even further to continue to help people during the cost of living crisis.

The station is now selling unleaded fuel at 159.9p and diesel for 179.9p a litre. “At the moment, there’s no one that’s cheaper than those prices,” he said. “We’ve had a fantastic response from people over the past twelve days and we’ve seen how much of a difference it’s made to the bottom line of our customers.

“We wanted to do something even further. The wholesale price has dropped slightly which has given us the chance to go down to this level.”
