Police investigating homicide after man found dead inside Federal Way home

The Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) is investigating a homicide after finding a 41-year-old man dead inside a Federal Way residence. The man’s roommate was arrested and booked as a suspect in the death, according to police.

Just after 1 p.m. May 2, officers responded to a welfare check at a multi-family housing complex in the 1300 block of SW Campus Drive, according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of FWPD.

Concerned family members were attempting to find and contact their 41-year-old brother, whom they had not heard from in a couple of days, Schwan said. While the family was at the residence — which the brother shared with his 44-year-old roommate — the family found signs of violent assault and contacted police, he said.

Officers detained the roommate after a preliminary investigation. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) responded to assist with the investigation.

During the execution of the search warrant, detectives located the brother deceased inside the residence on the second floor.

The roommate was arrested and booked at King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. He has not yet been charged.

The name of the deceased man is not yet available. Schwan said there is no ongoing threat to the community as it appears the suspect acted alone.
