Storm Eunice: Southeastern urges Kent residents to work from home amid Met Office warning

Southeastern has urged Kent residents to work from home as Storm Eunice approaches.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a “danger to life” amber warning covering most of the country for Friday (February 18), when the storm is set to hit.

Northern Powergrid said 10,000 homes were reconnected and 1,000 properties had no lights this morning (February 17) in the wake of the previous storm, Storm Dudley.

But now, the train operator Southeastern has told its passengers to “work from home or postpone your journey if you can” ahead of tomorrow.

Trains will run on a 50mph speed limit across most of the network from the start of service until at least 6pm.

This is due to a safety precaution because there is a risk of trees and debris being blown onto the tracks.

Trains between Hastings and London Charing Cross will not run between London Bridge and London Charing Cross, and peak hour trains between the Medway Towns and London Cannon Street will not run in the morning or evening.

Peak hour services between Hastings, Ashford International, Tonbridge and London Cannon Street will also not run in the morning or evening.

The 6.22am train from Ashford to London Blackfriars via Maidstone East has been cancelled, and alternative services will run to Victoria.

On their website, Southeastern said: “Because of the high risk of disruption and the likelihood of trees etc. blocking the lines, we recommend that you consider postponing your journey or working from home if possible.

“If you have already bought your ticket for Friday, you will be able to use it on Thursday or Saturday at no extra charge (or apply for a refund).”

Passengers can also use London Underground services and Thameslink trains on Friday to complete their journey at no extra cost.
