1-year-old Kent boy dies from drowning in Lake Meridian

A 1-year-old boy died due to drowning in Lake Meridian in what Kent Police called “a tragic incident.”

Puget Sound Fire responded at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, June 4 to a reported drowning at Lake Meridian, 14800 SE 272nd St., according to Puget Sound Fire. Firefighters arrived and began performing CPR on the boy and King County Medic One provided advanced life support treatment before transporting him to a local hospital, where he later died.

“The child wandered away from the home where family was gathered,” said Kent Police Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner in a June 8 email. “The child had been with other family members while they were in the garage playing with the door open. The child was discovered to be missing and when they went looking for him, they found him at the nearby lake. The family was cooperative with the officers and this appears to be a tragic incident.”

Family members found the Kent boy and initiated CPR, Kasner said.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the boy as Mordekai Luey and ruled that he died due to drowning.
