Aerial pictures of the M20 show the extent of the chaos approaching the Channel Tunnel as maintenance work causes long delays.
There are currently delays of more than an hour on the approach to the Folkestone terminal, as work is carried out to fix a fault with the overhead power supply at the tunnel itself.
The east bound entry slip at Westenhanger has been closed due to build up of queues on the main carriageway.
There is also queuing traffic on the left lane on the M20 eastbound between J11 and J11a.
Motorists have been advised to approach with caution and to follow the diversion route – heading west bound on the M20, turning at J10 and returning.
Passengers for the Eurotunnel are facing delays of approximately six hours to their booked times, but they are advised to check in as planned.
Photographs of the scene show complete gridlock on the approach to the terminal.
