Des Moines Police took a person into custody at a Kent apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, June 22 for investigation of killing another person whose body was found June 20 in the Duwamish River near Skyway in unincorporated King County.

King County Sheriff’s Office deputies contacted the Des Moines Police at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 20 advising them about a dead body dumped in the river, according to a June 22 Des Moines Police media release.

Further information indicated that this homicide may have taken place at the Des Moines Station Apartments, 2060 Kent Des Moines Road, according to Des Moines Police spokesperson Sgt. Scott Oak. The apartment complex is west of Pacific Highway South and northwest of Highline College.

Des Moines detectives obtained a search warrant on the apartment and found evidence of a homicide, Oak said. Witnesses were contacted, interviewed and a suspect was identified.

At about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Des Moines Police detectives found the suspect at an apartment complex in Kent. With the assistance of the Valley SWAT Team, the suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked into the King County jail.

Des Moines Police did not release the age or sex of the victim or suspect or the apartment complex where the arrest took place.

“I’m sorry but I’m not able to answer these questions yet,” Oak said in an email to the Kent Reporter. “We are waiting on the medical examiner and still conducting interviews.”

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the name, cause and manner of death of the person found in the river.
