Live updates as firefighters rush to Dartford Heath blaze

Keep windows and doors closed, avoid fire-damaged area tomorrow – Kent Fire

Kent Fire has said that just two fire engines remain at the scene of the first on Dartford Heath, where approximately 10 hectares of land has been affected.

In an update posted at 11:45pm, the fire service said they were continuing to make “good progress” but urged local residents to keep their windows and doors closed.

“Crews are making good progress and advice to keep windows and doors closed in the local area due to smoke is still currently in place,” they said. “Please pass this message onto anyone who may not have access to the internet.”

Kent Fire also warned members of the public to avoid walking in the area where the fire took place due to the risk of dangerous “hotspots”.

“Firefighters are reminding people to avoid walking around the area tomorrow as there may still be multiple hotspots,” they said. “There will also be remaining toxins and fumes present for some days to come which can be bad for the health of people and animals.”
