Maidstone flats evacuated after fire breaks out in fifth floor apartment

Residents were evacuated from a block of flats in Maidstone after fire broke out.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent four fire engines to the blaze at College Court, off Hayle Road, on Monday afternoon (November 1).

On arrival crews found a fire on the fifth floor.

The fire service said: “The accommodation block was quickly and safely evacuated. There were no reported injuries.

“Firefighters put out the fire using a main jet and breathing apparatus. One room in the home suffered some fire and smoke damage, while the whole apartment was left with extensive smoke damage throughout.”

Fire crews were called out at just after 3.30pm and left the scene at just before 6pm.
