Man appears in court after ‘serious assault’ in Hythe

A 33-year-old man has appeared in court following a ‘serious assault’ in Hythe. Mathew Chapman appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Chapman, of Kent Road in Folkestone, was bailed following the appearance. He will next appear before Canterbury Crown Court next month.

The charge relates to an incident that took place in the garden of a pub on Seabrook Road on May 27. Police were called at around 11.20pm.

Emergency services attended and the victim was airlifted to a London Hospital. He remains there in a serious condition.
